This post is about a small lock at a little speck on the map called Ezamul.  This lock regulates the water levels to keep farmland from flooding while still allowing limited boat traffic.  Here is the inland side of the lock, with the doors almost closed:




Here is the bridge across the canal.  It is big enough for cars to cross, but not heavy vehicles:



Here, you can see the dike that protects the inland area from flooding, and the side wall of the lock:



I took this picture to show the round, cylindrical basalt rocks used in a lot of dike construction in Holland.  The huge Aufsluitdijk is finished with this same volcanic rock.  It is really quite attractive - looks a bit like an old, cobblestone street.



The doors on the other side of the lock were fully open.  I got a chuckle out of the Heineken bottle left there by a passing boater:



And here is the larger canal on the outer side, with fishing boats lining the shore:



Notice how colourfully the boats are painted:
